First-party fraud and synthetic identity fraud attacks are on the rise. Distinguishing between these two crimes is extremely challenging; the methodologies behind both approaches are quite diverse and often require different defenses to mitigate at account opening. How do enterprises tackle this problem if they don’t know which type of fraudsters are attacking their business?

Our new research examined the differences in synthetic identity and first-party fraud traits and the financial impact of each. The study also discusses effective approaches that address the gray areas of identity fraud.
